Outdoor Philosophy: Sea Kayak

Who for:
Individuals or groups seeking to explore their values, develop their environmental leadership and make their personal and working lives more sustainable; organisations seeking inspiration and support in the move towards increased environmental commitment and more sustainable working practices.

Where:
Sea-kayaking on the wild and beautiful West Coast and sea-lochs of Scotland. Accommodation from camping to castles, arranged to suit tastes and budgets. No experience needed. 2-5 day courses.

During the day:
Sea kayaking along beautiful, wild coast lines and amongst remote islands we will:

  • Experience the power of the sea while surrounded by marine life
  • Feel the inter-relationship between humans, oceans and the wider environment
  • Learn more about the impact of our lifestyles and consumption patterns on marine environments and ecosystems

In the evening:
Around the fire, under canvas or in a Scottish bar we will:

  • Hear the stories, both cultural and scientific, of people who know the sea
  • Reflect on the sea as an example of our relationships with natural systems everywhere
  • Develop a critical awareness of these relationships, even in the most urbanised setting
  • Acknowledge and celebrate what is positive and recognise the negative in our lifestyles and actions
  • Identify the strongest potential for personal, professional and organisational change
  • Decide what to do, and how to make it happen

Afterwards:
To help put your plans into action:

  • Draw on memories and friendships to support your environmental leadership
  • Become part of a network of people actively working to bring about a sustainability sea-change
  • Receive regular follow-up and support
